Up until a couple of years ago, I was TERRIBLE at looking after my skin and my hair, until I thought one day ENOUGH. Especially now we’re looking at cold windy days, taking care of your skin is super super important, even with just a light moisturiser. Mine, however, goes a lot further…
This is where my beautiful Clinique 3-Step Skin Care set comes into use. At least once a day I use this set. I have type 2, for combination skin, although it’s done so well for the dry patches on my skin, that I’m considering using just the set for oily skin. Maybe once I’ve run out of everything…
The face wash is super gentle, but it’ll still clean off any leftover makeup, which is great for me, because I’m TERRIBLE at getting off every trace of my foundation at the end of the day. The clarifying lotion is a bit less gentle. The first time I used it the alcohol smell made my eyes water, but I powered through! This takes any excess oil off of the surface off my skin, and where you’d think to avoid any dry areas to prevent drying them out any further – don’t. This is superb at lifting the dry skin away, leaving smoother, fresher skin underneath. And then the last step, the moisturising lotion. This will keep that dry skin moisturised all day long with a buildable consistency, so I tend to put it on quite lightly in the morning so my foundation doesn’t just FALL off, and then quite heavily in the evening so it soaks in ALL night, leaving me all shiny and soft in the morning
For my hair, I love using the Elvive Extraordinary Oil, to tame my wild frizz and sort of make it go into SOMETHING that resembled curls. Vaguely. And for the rest of my body, I use Aveeno Skin Relief lotion. Jennifer Aniston is in the advert, so it’s definitely good stuff. I tried the daily lotion from them, but I have such dry skin on my legs and arms that I need some properly heavy duty stuff. Where my skin is so dry, my pores are red. Weird, I know. But this magical potion just erases it all. What a beauty.
Three Times A Week
This is where things get a bit more meticulous. Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays are my hair wash days. I know it’s probably weird to have designated days, but when you’ve got hair like me, you don’t have much of a choice. But, since I’m already going to be in the shower for ages on those days anyway, I might as well just make it a bit longer. I use the Lush Mint Julip lip scrub because it tastes FAB and it’s edible so it doesn’t matter if some of the sugary deliciousness just happens to make its way into my mouth. While that does its thing, I use my Bee Good Honey and Camelina Facial Exfoliator, which is hands down the best scrub I’ve ever used. I used to use a Nivea scrub, but now I’ve gone natural and done away with the microbeads! Look at me go.
For my hair, I love a bit more Elvive, these have a bit of glitter in them to try and make my hair shine, and the conditioner leaves it super soft and lovely. After towel drying (I rarely use heat), I throw on some MORE Elvive oil-in-cream, which “moisturises” my hair, and makes it sort of set in ringlets for the next morning. It works even better if I whack my hair into french plaits. Getting curls the old school way.
And finally, once a week, I have a big deep clean. L’Oreal Detox mask on, letting the charcoal do it’s thing and pull all the bad out of my face, while I lay in the bath with a lovely Lush bath bomb and have a gooooood soak. While that happens, I’ve got a hair mask on from Aussie or 7th Heaven to give me some lovely, soft locks.
And then, in the shower, after my bath. (yes, I shower after I bath), I wash off all the suds, and give myself a good scrub with a mitt or my konjac sponge if I’m feeling more gentle and then bam. As soft as a baby dolphin.
