Since it was announced last summer, I knew the Urban Decay All Nighter foundation was something I needed in my life. Not want. NEED. They had me by “matte” and “waterproof” in the same sentence.
But, since my sad financial situation limited my spending, I decided to wait til Christmas for this bad boy from my wonderful parents. Luckily, this also gave me the time to check out a TONNE of reviews and not one of them did I see that was negative. Could it have been too good to be true?
Since this was my first high-end foundation, I didn’t want to be a bit risky and order it over the internet so I decided to live on the wild side and head into my nearest Urban Decay shop for a quick colour test. I had a quick look myself and made my own predictions before being sat down by a gorgeous artist called Peter who’s makeup was everything I could ever dream of. Luckily, he was about to teach me his ways. We found my match, the 2.0, which has quite yellow undertones, instead of pink, (my prediction was right and I felt SO smug) and he asked if I wanted him to put it all over my face. Why not, might as well cover my whole face up if its for free. He wiped off all my different coloured stripes, but before he applied any foundation, he told me a bit about it it. Because of how matte it is (and because of a chemical in it which I can’t remember the name of), it can be pretty drying on the skin, so he brought out the Brightening and Tightening Primer, to keep my skin super hydrated all day underneath my foundation. After applying the primer and foundation I had a sneaky feel of my skin while he wasn’t looking. God DAMN it was smooth. Yet dry. Yet soft. How did he DO that? Lastly, he asked me how set my foundation, and after answering with ‘translucent powder’, he wandered off and came back with the beautiful De-Slick mattifying powder. If I thought my skin was smooth before HOW WRONG I WAS.
After leaving with an extra two products than we were originally anticipating, the wait was now on til Christmas for me to actually attempt that masterpiece myself. I assure you, it is possible, even for a mere mortal such as myself.
Even for some pretty extreme combination skin, it works wonders. Where I used to use colour corrector and then my foundation and then concealer over the top, the coverage of this foundation is so good that I don’t actually need any other products. Where I’ve previously had problems with dry skin on my cheeks showing through my foundation, the moisturising primer takes care of that. Where my foundation has previously rubbed off after one single touch and essentially MELTING off my nose and forehead, it actually stays put all day long. And the POWDER. Where my old foundation really hated staying on my skin, it would crease SO easily around my mouth, making me look about 60 by the end of the day. This stuff dries it down and smooths it and keeps it in its place for HOURS. The creases are no more. I actually look like a real life 20 year old. I’ve never had a matte foundation before this, I’ve always stuck with a satin liquid instead, which would always leave my skin feeling oily and sticky, but this stuff is perfect for my complexion.
God I could talk about this all day long. But I won’t, I’ll stop here. This is definitely a foundation to trust in and TOTALLY worth the hype. Urban Decay, I salute you.
