Busy busy week! So much to talk about!
Let’s start at the beginning… Last Friday night. Last Friday was Lower Than Atlantis. And they were SO GOOD. As my early birthday present, my best friend took me out for a pre-gig Nando’s (I mean, where else) before we were treated to THREE support acts before our totally FAVES came on. They were absolutely BANGING. It was sweaty, pushy, everything you want from a gig.
Since Connor lives in Brighton, he got home on the overground, while I got the tube and made my way home on the last train from Waterloo. This was on St.Patrick’s night, so I always knew there was the possibility of it being a bit rowdy. But it was chill, it was just kids that had been at the gig too, all passed out over eachother. Oh to be young at gigs again.
I wasn’t getting off the train at home, I was staying at Joe’s, which was an extra three stops, and ironically, it was at my home station that all the drunk, rowdy people got on. Stay classy Bracknell. A couple of stops later, one stop away from where I need to get off, three drunk lads get on. Probably around my age, and I think I recognised a couple of them, most likely from when I worked at my local pub.
Now at this point, it’s 1am. I’m a 20 year old woman, alone in the carriage with my headphones on. So OBVIOUSLY they have to come and sit with me. The one that sits opposite me asks me where I live. “Why” is the only thing I say to him. Funnily enough, I wasn’t going to tell him where I lived. Undeterred, he talks about going out for St.Patrick’s and then grabs me and kisses me. A strange man. ‘Luckily’ I manage to push him away enough that he only gets me on the cheek but still. Who in their RIGHT MIND, drunk or not, thinks that it is okay to grab a woman sat on her own and kiss her? I’m glad that they were around my age and nothing I couldn’t handle, since working in a Wetherspoons, you get used to sexual harassment. But what if they weren’t? What if they were twice my age and twice my size? To calm Joe down when I told him, I had to tell him that it’s just something that women have to deal with. And it’s true. But Jesus f*cking Christ it shouldn’t be.
Now, onto a more positive note. The next day, I got the loveliest present from Joe’s parents, some BEAUTIFUL flowery cupcakes got myself all dolled up and headed into Guildford to see one of my OLDEST friends, Emma, who was up from uni for the day for a bit of lunch and retail therapy. And therapy it was. Sat in GBK we had a lovely reminisce on school and catching eachother up on what we’ve been up to, it was GREAT. Seeing Connor Friday and Emma Saturday was like two mini birthdays in one weekend and I LOVED it. I also loved her student discount. I managed to pick up an oil-slick terrarium and a little cactus I have named Fred from Urban Outfitters. LOVED it.
The rest of this week has been the run up to my 21st Birthday on Wednesday and it was a fab day. Up at 6:30 for some birthday yoga before heading downstairs with my parents for cards and presents. I was beyond lucky with the amazing gifts I received. From my parents I got an upgrade to my Canon 50mm 1.8, to a 1.4 and I’m in LOVE. When I got to work my desk was covered in balloons and streamers and party hats and god I love the people I work with. They’re all just so nice. At about 4pm we had a delivery to the office and lo and behold it was a bunch of pink roses from Joe. Oh my goddddddd. As soon as I got home from work he arrived with a MASSIVE Lush gift box too. I am one lucky girl.
As soon as I got home I had to arrange all my flowers and it gave me the perfect excuse to try out my new lens before we headed out for dinner at a super nice Indian across town. It was SO nice. We’ve never been out for dinner before with Mum, Dad, Me and Joe. And it went surprisingly well, no awkward silences, no ‘dad-glares’, it all went well!
It’s been SUCH a busy week and next week is going to be EVEN BETTER as I’m going away to Cornwall for the weekend with my mum for a girly getaway. PLEASE NO RAIN.
